Writing Can Improve Your Memory

Wednesday, February 10th, 2010

Every time you reconstruct a memory, reminisce or re-read a story you have written about an event you experienced, you are actually strengthening the neurological pathway for that memory.  This helps prevent it’s loss.

“What we believe about ourselves is determined by what we remember about our pasts.”  Daniel L Schacter

You can improve your memory by writing in each of the areas of memory.  There are 3 types:

1. abstract ideas

2. general memories which are your knowledge or know-how

3. autobiographical memories which are those memories that form as a result of our experiences, a story about us or about us in the world.  Those slices of our lives and the stories that makeup our core personalities.

Improving your memory is just another great reason to write your stories and sharing with others just adds to the fun.

Another Book Off To The Publisher

Tuesday, November 17th, 2009

When you are writing online your format is different than when you are having a book published off line whether that is self publishing or having a publisher doing that for you.

Most people use Microsoft Word to write documents and the default page size is the 8 1/2 X 11.  If you also want to be published, decide which size you are going to have as a finished book and set your page size accordingly before you begin.  If you do this when you start you will not have to go back and transfer your information to a smaller size later if you decide you want to have a published copy of your information. This way you can use the content on or offline and do that more easily.

It is exciting to see your writing come to a finished product you can hold in your hand.  Something that for many is a long process.  It is actually quite easy with the tools we have available to us today so I want to encourage you to press toward that goal and break through any blocks you might encounter.  Even if you only have 1 copy on your shelf, it is a very gratifying experience to hold that book in your hand.

What Are Options For Your Writing

Sunday, November 8th, 2009

Ebooks are one of the ways you can add  into your strategy to share your work with others.  Electronic publishing is easy to do and your reader can just download the file so they have instant access to your work. (After they pay, of course) In addition you can self publish a small quantity of books that you can have available for the person who just wants to see the book on their shelf after they have read it.

Many authors are starting with this form of connecting to their reader base and occasionally the brick and mortar publishers contact the person who has been successful with their online sales to do a traditional publishing contract.

If you don’t add ebooks to your sharing mix, you’ll miss out on a huge credibility builder and be leaving a whole lot of money on the table! Get those fingers typing with your content, save them in a pdf file and offer them to those who want to buy your work.  The world is waiting to read what you have to say, so big breath and go for it!  You can do it!!

The Explaination For Ditzyfritzing

Monday, April 27th, 2009

I have taught adult education for many years and in one class I had a lot of the students who were fooling around, chatting and not getting their work done.  I had tried all of the usual encouragements for them to get back on track and go back to their project and nothing seemed to be working.

Suddenly, totally unplanned,  I said to them stop ditzyfritzing around and lets get back to our projects.  They were immediately paying attention because it was a word they had never heard before and it caught their attention. We all had a good laugh, they went back to work on their projects and the word ditzyfritzing was born. I continue to use it to this day.  Have fun using it if you like, just give me credit for dreaming it up.

Have Fun Doing Your Creative Writing

Thursday, April 16th, 2009

Creativity comes out of your right brain and is often overshadowed by your left brain which is logical and analytical.  It is your job to find ways to tap into your right brain so you can get to the creativity and tap into your inner author.  The right brain likes fun, games, music, laughter, being spontaneous to name just a few things that appeal to the right brain.

I have recorded a cd to explain how to tap into the creativity you already have inside you and locate your inner author so you can write more easily.  You can find it here:   http://budurl.com/creativitycd

Today’s Buzz Words Are Creative Writing Strategies

Saturday, January 3rd, 2009

My name is Marjorie J McDonald and I have had the opportunity over the past years to teach creativity in writing.  My online exercises for those who need to learn which area of writing they want to do can be found at http://www.freecreativewritingstrategies.com and for those who know your topic area are ready to begin writing you can get help by putting in your name and email address in the opt in box at the top of the page.   For additional inspiration, you can see my latest articles from Ezine by scrolling down on the right side of this page.

Since writing influences every area of our lives, it is a skill that is very important to learn.  Continued learning is even more important. Mastering the power of words is a satisfying experience when you observe that your reader has connected with what you are saying and understands the content.

Many experience writers block and seem to have things holding them back from expressing in writing.  If you are between getting started and being ready to go there are very easy solutions for getting across that bridge, so make a list of the things that stop you from writing  and you are on your way to tapping into your inner author and possibly alot of passive income.

You have a story that the world is waiting to hear and it is your responsibility to share it with others.  We are all waiting for your viewpoint and approach to events, how you problem solve and how you would take care of things that pop up in everyday life.  Your approach might just be my solution. The world is looking for solutions so your idea just might help many other people, too.

Creative writing strategies are one of the best and quickest ways to get started in sharing your ideas and thoughts with the world.  Join in and have fun going to your next level.     New Year, New Start, New Level.  Kind of has a ring to it don’t you think?

If you would like to be notified for the free teleseminars I will be starting then leave me your name and email address on the top right of this page so I can send you the call in details.

Writing About Hopes and Dreams

Thursday, January 1st, 2009

Traditional resolutions as you go into any new year have us pointed in the wrong direction-looking back.

For today-let’s look forward instead to what you might be wanting to realize and set the stage for this by prefacing the specifics of what you want to see with one of these following “launch pad” statements.

“It would be nice if…”

“If I could have it my way…”

I’d like to see this…or something better”

When you preface your desires in this way, you create high desire and little resistance.  This is called being “hopefully expectant” and this gives you the movement toward the goals you want.  Use this approach to write about what you would like to see in your new year and see the difference it can make in being able to realize your dreams.

Writing With a Creative Twist

Sunday, October 26th, 2008

Many times writing takes a creative and unexpected twist.  These skills allow us to stay interested and wanting to find out what happens next.  Watch everyday and see where in life things happened that were unexpected.  You can gather information from news stories, tv programs, conversations, books and magazines.  Just be alert and you can jot down those unexpected happenings and apply them to every kind of story you might like to write from comedy to mystery and everything between.  Have fun and explore how a few simple twists can enhance your writing.

Where Do I Start My Conversation?

Saturday, October 25th, 2008

Conversational writing is one of the fastest ways to become comfortable with learning to put your thoughts onto paper and for you to experience the joy of writing.  As you are telling your story in this manner, it becomes fun and easy.  When writing this way the words flow from your heart.  Because they are genuine, they touch the one who is reading the words at their heart level and the words become special messengers.

See writing as creative sharing and you will find pleasure in doing it.  Consider what has brought joy to you and remember that same thing will bring joy to others.  Share your stories.  You never know who might be comforted by your words and thoughts.
