Writing System Ideas

Saturday, March 6th, 2010

Are you wondering WHERE the writing results you want are and what’s taking so long for your written work to start paying you? You might just need a reminder:  The day you plant the seed (got an idea about a topic you wanted to write about) is NOT the day you see growth or for sure not the day you eat the fruit.

So many new writers (and seasoned writers too) are in avoidance and denial-not beginning to write, not continuing to work on what they are in the middle of writing and not getting the manuscript or stories finished. The biggest hindrance is not getting any help when stuck. The I don’t have to check my grammar or have help in editing what I have written syndrome. I’ll get back to writing that last chapter later but why isn’t my royalty check in the mail today?

We are conditioned through the media that everything is supposed to happen miraculously quickly in our lives. The I wanted the results to be here yesterday with no effort kind of thinking.

Whoa. Slow down for a second! You need a new strategy if what you have done in the past is not working for you.

So how do you stop the avoidance and denial of not getting your writing done?

Most people set up completely unrealistic expectations of what they are capable of or how long what we want to do will take. When our initial efforts don’t meet those grandiose self-imposed expectations quickly, they begin to go into a place of doubt, worry, fear and then inevitably, resentment and anger.

If ever you get caught up in “Why isn’t this happening?”, getting into a place of self-doubt or blaming the process, remind yourself you are in charge of starting and completing your written material and when you do the project advances and the results start coming.

You are ultimately responsible for your own successes, your actions, and most importantly how you see your own progress and success. You create your results. A person coming from a VICTIM point of view will always see fault in the process. You will recognize this by the excuses that you have for not writing and not completing your written projects based on things you claim are out of your control.  A person coming from a VICTORIOUS point of view will always see opportunity, no matter what’s in front of them.

Understand that the seeds you plant (your written material) take time to grow (be completed, sold in bookstores or online). Just as you wouldn’t rush Mother Nature and expect a tree to grow in one day, blaming the process of nature for being too slow, is unrealistic. Tend to your writing seeds. Understand that different plants sprout, grow and produce fruit at different paces. Do everything that is required of you, and then get yourself in a place of POSITIVE EXPECTATION. That place where you begin to have your writing published and readers who enjoy your communication and written work. And even checks for your written work.

OK, you’re in a place of positive expectation, but you don’t know where to start with the writing? Then it’s time to take action and invest in a step-by-step writing system that will feel easy and authentic to you. The Accelerated Creative Writing System avoids all the unnecessary stuff and gives you the most important things to do to find your topic, get help from a coach if you need it, determine if writer’s block is in your way. Learning From The Prairie Dog

Learning From The Prairie Dog

Prairie dog families live in underground colonies called burrows. The burrows can be more than a hundred feet (30 meters) long and have many different compartments (at bottom) where the prairie dogs sleep, raise their young, and stay safe from predators. They are part of the squirrel family and multiply very quickly.

When I was growing up on a ranch in eastern Montana we began to have large colonies of prairie dogs begin to build what were called prairie dog towns.  As you looked across the land you saw many holes where the burrows opened and they came to the surface above ground.

It was very dangerous for the animals who could fall into the holes and injure their legs.  A very costly problem for anyone who had livestock , in my father’s case, horses, sheep and cattle.

So what does the prairie dog have to do with writing?

Life can become so busy trying to handle the things that pop up, like the prairie dog popping out of it’s burrow unexpectedly, that it can become like a giant game of  Whack-The-Dog. Every time you solve a problem, two or three even more stubborn challenges pop up to distract you and try to pull your attention away from your life and writing to problem solving mode.

This can seriously hinder your ability to think about how you want to communicate unless you are jotting down the steps to how you are solving the problem.  Those steps can really help others if you will share what and how you handled the problems you encountered.

Knowing how you solved a problem that you dealt with can save others many hours of trying to figure out what to do. Think about a solution you came up with when someone else was sharing how they solved a problem.

On the other hand, your mind continually pops up ideas for you, that if you jot down at the time, you can go back to later and add more content to expand on the idea.

Be pro-active at keeping those dogs (problems) at bay and be diligent at spending a few minutes a day at your writing. Those 5 minutes here and there can even produce a nice income for you.  Click Here!   for more information about how you can do that.

What Are Options For Your Writing

Sunday, November 8th, 2009

Ebooks are one of the ways you can add  into your strategy to share your work with others.  Electronic publishing is easy to do and your reader can just download the file so they have instant access to your work. (After they pay, of course) In addition you can self publish a small quantity of books that you can have available for the person who just wants to see the book on their shelf after they have read it.

Many authors are starting with this form of connecting to their reader base and occasionally the brick and mortar publishers contact the person who has been successful with their online sales to do a traditional publishing contract.

If you don’t add ebooks to your sharing mix, you’ll miss out on a huge credibility builder and be leaving a whole lot of money on the table! Get those fingers typing with your content, save them in a pdf file and offer them to those who want to buy your work.  The world is waiting to read what you have to say, so big breath and go for it!  You can do it!!

Improve Writing By Using Your Analytical Skills

Monday, August 10th, 2009

Writing is best done when using the right brain skills to communicate your idea.  Editing and tweaking are done by using the analytical skills of your left brain. In writing you need to use both sides of the brain and know when you are using right skills and when you are using left skills.

Before you start to write you can use a combination of the skills from each side of your brain.  Decide on what audience you are writing to, research to know your audience and what they want to know more about, know your topic and approach to the information and then be creative in communicating your ideas about your topic.

Continue with a combination of these skills as you go to the content piece and when you are finishing your idea.

When you can easily move between the skill sets of each side of your brain, writing becomes so much fun. For help in determining what the skills are for each side of the brain and how to integrate them so the sides work better together go here:     http://budurl.com/bintegrated

Having Your Writing Evaluated

Sunday, May 31st, 2009

If that brought up a yucky feeling in the pit of your stomach you may have some issues left over from school where you dreaded the evaluation of the teacher and the grade you were getting or might be getting on the paper you turned in for the assignment.

Funny how left over stuff clogs our life in many areas.  In your writing it stops you from doing it and letting other people look at it for fear they might criticize.

I recommend this source of help with having someone else read and evaluate (or edit) your work. She has many years in the publishing industry and knows what to look for when going over any one’s written work.  In this scenario, she is telling you what to look for and you are doing it so that unplugs the fear of what someone else might say and you get the benefit of having the information to look at your written work like a publisher would by following her steps.  http://www.edityourownwriting.com

Creative Writing Made Easy With So Many Choices

Wednesday, April 15th, 2009

Writing is one of the most fun things you can do to record your ideas, stories, adventures and happenings in your life.  You are able to write from your own perspective and share with others how you are moving through the events in your life.  You can never know how many others can benefit from your approach and problem solving abilities.

Often we never consider that how we solved a situation might help someone else.  I am always surprised at the thank your I get from other people when I share.  Underestimating our influence on others can keep you from thinking that what you might say is important and that often leads to not sharing.

If you could just have an idea that what and how much of what you share could help and impact others it might be easier to sit down and write out your story.  Someone somewhere might have made you feel that your ideas were not of value to others so if that is what happened, it might be harder to share your ideas.  Consider that those people are not able to continue to keep you from writing if you really want to share your thoughts.  I would encourage you to begin and see if you can put your ideas down on paper.  I laugh when people talk but do not want to write.  I guess they think that if it is said and someone challenges them they can deny it but if it is in writing they can’t.

The best thing to do if you are nervous that someone might criticize your work is write it down and put it on your shelf.  At least you will have it in writing so you can enjoy it.  Then at some time if you want to share with others you can.  If it really is hard for you to share your work, write under a pen name and that way you will be out of the picture for people to fuss at.

If you are finding you want to write but just can’t get to it, you might be experiencing writers block.

Writing Secrets To Increase Productivity

Thursday, March 12th, 2009

Write in a conversational manner and take frequent breaks while you are in the creative mood.  Your thoughts will be able to bubble to the surface where you can capture them and put them on paper.  Being sure you are breathing and occasionally taking a few deeper breaths will clear your mind and release the tension in your body.  This will allow you to be clearer on what you are writing as well as refine what you have already written in your earlier writing sessions.  The concepts will go together better when you have a few minutes away from the content and things that are inconsistent will be easier to identify.

Save editing your work until later.  For now, just continue to write the content that is pertinent to the topic you are covering.  If you are having trouble following your words, so will you reader so see where you begin to feel bogged down and change the content in that area.

If you are ready to begin writing your final content, you can get the help you need that is in a step by step format by using this resource: http://www.edityourownwriting.com
