Writing is just another form of talking. Having a conversation on paper is something we are familiar with because we have seen books and magazines. You can start your own conversation on paper with ease by pretending to tell your story as if the reader was in your presence as you are writing. The only difference is when writing the details down you have to add descriptions that you could, in real life, show to the listener. Add feelings about the event you are sharing and be sure to make it fun for yourself as you explain to the reader all of the information that will make the story clear to them.

Summer is busy with all kinds of activities. A good source for writing about the activity or your enjoyment of the activity.

If you are active in a sport, you could write about the history of the sport, how it has changed over the years, why you enjoy it, about the other fans of the sport and some of their reasons for enjoying the sport.

There is just a wealth of information about why you enjoy the sport and got started in participating actively or from the stands as you are watching others and cheering them on.

Let others know why they might enjoy the sport also and where they might be able to learn to do the sport or participate in being a fan of the sport.

From every angle you could tell about this topic so get your writing tools ready to go and get started on sharing with others. It will increase your skills at writing and being able to communicate the details about the topic so others can understand the sport and then can decide if they can share in your passion for the sport.

As you have had your car serviced you may have had the person at the service desk come to you and tell you that your car needed ____________repairs and your cost to have this done would be___________. Sometimes they tell you that the repair needs to be done immediately or_______.

Write a short story about if this has happened to you and what you decided to do. Your story could be humorous or a drama depending on what happened to you

It will also give you the steps that you go through to decide on things that need to be done to maintain your car and sharing your written list could help others in evaluating so they just get what is needed instead of many additional items that were not needed.

I always value information that someone who is knowledgeable gives when what I need the information about is not something that I know much about. Having expert resource information has saved me a considerable amount of money and kept me from having totally unnecessary repairs.

Make your list-Share it with others if you are in the know and ask lots of questions if you are the one who is asking for help.

It can also be a good idea to get a second opinion when this happens unless you are really confident in your repair facility.

Do you struggle to have enough good creative ideas?

The trouble with creative ideas is they’re often a little shy. And a little nervous.

They need coaxing and encouraging, and don’t tend to rush up in a clown costume with blaring trumpets going “LA LA LA we’re heee-errrre!” to any party they’re invited (or not invited) to.

You have to create the right kind of conditions for the ideas to form, so they feel safe and respected and valued.

This may sound a bit of a soft focus fuzzy edged kind of approach to having ideas, but it works!

If you just sit down with an empty notebook and pencil, and say: “right, there’s a blank page, in fact a whole BOOK of blank pages, come on you ideas, fill it up!” then not very much is likely to happen. Remember how shy they are?

For them this would be like arriving early at a party, feeling awkward that none of your friends have arrived yet, struggling to make small talk with people you seem to have nothing in common with and swearing next time you’ll arrive two hours after the party’s started!

So how can you get the ideas to flow, to come out of hiding, to know only come to the party, but to have a great time?

You simply write. Write whatever comes, it doesn’t matter how you begin. You could start by writing out your shopping list, or writing “I don’t know where to begin” ten times. What matters is that you do begin.

What happens then, is the blank pages start to fill with words, and all those ideas waiting in your mind for a good opportunity to come out to play, start to think “Hey this looks like fun, there’s lots of people gathering, we won’t be the first in and feel awkward. Let’s go!”

So they begin to appear. And appear.

You see, we’re all creative, and far more so than we think we are. We can’t turn off our creativity, but we can neglect it, ignore it, or not welcome it.

Back to writing in your notebook, and the ideas will start to flow before you realise it. As soon as you have a few words down, your creative mind will make other associations and connections with those words, images will form in your mind, you’ll write those down and pretty soon they’ll start to snowball.

A bit like a few people going along to a party, realising how brilliant it is, and calling up all their other friends to come along too. This is how creative ideas are connected, they attract and breed off each other, so the more you write, the more will be queuing up to join the fun!

Of course the same principle applies what ever your preferred creative media. Once you get started, the ideas will start flocking to your party in droves!

A great number of us have creative writing talents far greater than we realise.

But despite this, most of us simply aren’t writing creatively anywhere near as well, as much, or as often as we could be.

Why is this? Surely if we truly want to write creatively it’ll just naturally flow?

There are many reasons why we don’t reach our potential. Here are 3 of the most common, and some top tips on how to overcome them:

1. You haven’t found your best writing format. Everyone has their favourite methods of writing, the ones in which we’re comfortable and competent in. Maybe yours is short stories, or poems, or novels.

But often we continue to write in this format because we feel it’s all we know how to do, it just comes automatically. Though we feel we’ve got much more potential to be discovered, we can’t seem to unlock it through this form of writing we’re used to.

Top Tips to try: Try different types of writing, those you’d never even consider, those you’ve never tried before, those you haven’t even discovered yet. You might find a new form that lets you unleash that creative potential like never before.

At the very least, you’ll return to your main writing medium a richer, more experienced creative writer.

2. You don’t write often enough. What not-so-secret method helps a creative writer improve more than anything else? Writing!

If you’re only writing once in a while and have serious ambitions to develop your creative writing potential, you’ll simply have to write more widely, more deeply and more often. There’s no avoiding it!

Top Tips to try: Regularity is the key. Commit to writing for a small period of time every day for 14 days. You could start with just 10 minutes, but make sure you stick to it every day.

Write a few paragraphs on a new piece of work each day or just whatever’s in your thoughts at the time. The crucial part is to write consistently every day, then you can build up the amount gradually.

3. You don’t believe in your creative ability. On the surface you appear to be writing at a good standard and at a healthy steady rate of output.

But inside you long to burst out of the familiar straightjacket and let your creative writing talent run wild. What stops you? On a deep level you simply don’t believe you’ve got it in you.

Top Tips to try: Think about what you truly believe about your creative writing ability. Write down all your beliefs around your creative writing ability. If you find you actually don’t believe you’re capable of taking your writing to a new level, you’ll never progress.

Start to adopt the beliefs that are consistent with someone who reaches a little closer to their creative potential every day. Think about what someone who’s confident and creative believes about themselves and take on those beliefs yourself.

These are just 3 of the most common reasons why we don’t reach our potential for writing creatively.

Pick one that you identify with and try the tips suggested to help you become a better creative writer TODAY.

I have always enjoyed reading. There is so much to choose from out of the topics that I commonly want to add more to my knowledge base about. I really like the diversity of the approach to the information and frequently find that I can improve my use of the topic information by adding sometimes just one idea presented by the author I am currently reading.

Everyone has a way of approaching knowledge and if you have wanted to share but were concerned that the topic you want to write about already has everything about it covered you need to reconsider.

Because there are different learning styles the topic needs to be presented in different ways to have the information available to those different learning styles. Understand and learn more about learning styles.

Write about it in the way that you learn best and the readers that learn in the same way you do will find your information, be grateful you took time to share and will want to return for more of your future work.

People are continually searching for authors that are able to write in such a way that they GET the information. It is such a satisfying experience when you can connect with a topic, understand where the author is coming from and can apply the information to better your life.

Last fall I was notified that I had to move both my business and home so the complex I was in could renovate. Not much time to sort and go through the things I had accumulated over the time I had been there so it was off to find a new location and begin the project.

Many funny as well as annoying stories occurred as the process unfolded and is still going on. I am seeing an end though and the extra effort that I put into going through and sorting and seeing what could be thrown away has been worth the effort.

See if you can think of the last time you moved and select a topic to write about. It can be any slant you would like to use funny, sad, disgusting, etc. There are always assorted ways to look at things as you recall as many of the details as you can remember.

If you are continuing to talk about writing a book, it’s time for you to stop talking and start doing. I’ll give you an outline of how I work with my clients.

I have my client commit to a date 4 weeks from today (yes, I actually have them pull out their calendar and select the date right then and there) and begin to get their outline together for the content. Before anything else is done and before they leave the appointment this part is in place. You, like my clients, already know what you want to write about so the content outline step is easy.

What are my clients’ reactions? Yup, you guessed … “YIKES! I need to get in gear and get things going! I’m publishing my ebook in 4 weeks!!!”

Amazingly, everything always gets done. The content is written, finished, the sales letter or offer page is completed if they are marketing their ebook online and they have a list of other marketing sources lined up to help promote the ebook. Interestingly, everything is always easily completed before the launch date. I call this being PULLED forward by your marketing, instead of being a victim of perfection paralysis or saying I will get around to it later and continuing to procrastinate.

It is always easier to start with a finish date and work back to the beginning of a project. It allows you to plan for sufficient time to get everything completed. If you move forward from the beginning toward the end, something will usually happen to keep you from staying on track. That very well may be the reason you have not been able to complete your book before now.

I have found using the technique of moving from the end back toward the beginning to be particularly effective in writing but I have used it for many other event planning activities. It is a very successful and productive technique.

Set your date, get started with your writing and push toward forward your finish line.

Writing is about choices in the words we use or leave out as the story or event unfolds. You can choose your ideas and what combination of words you will persue with your written communication. That is what makes it so much fun.

Words are descriptive in the way they convey the information so the more descriptions, the better and more interesting the writing. To add spice to your words, you need to add feelings or emotional content with your words to get your reader involved with your story. Choose your words carefully so you don’t let them get in the way of the message you are telling by diverting the readers attention away from your topic.

If you have other opinions about your topic that do not directly relate to the outcome you want to achieve with what you are writing or provide good stimulation for your reader to consider the other points of view presented, you need to put them in another article or story. Then your reader does not wonder aimlessly through your writing and get confused with too many points of information about the topic that do not seem to add to their discovery or allow them to form an opinion from the information you presented. The moment the reader has to work at the words on the page is when the reader loses interest in what you are writing.

Write for yourself and not to impress others. You will discover that people connect with you and your consistency in the way you do things, talk about things or write about things. It adds value to them when you are believable. So what words do you frequently choose that make you believable? Are there any words you might want to choose to leave out of your verbal and written communication?
