I Want To Write But What Will People Say?

by Marjorie J ~ . Filed under: How to Start Writing.

My focus has been to empower you with the knowledge and tools to help you change your ideas about tapping into your inner author and beginning to write or write better.  Most of the time we stop ourselves because of what others might say about us. Think back about something you started then stopped yourself from doing because this voice in your head started this train of thought rolling.

You know the tape: what will others think, who do you think you are, you are not able to accomplish that and you add other thoughts that come up for you. Who gave that tape permission to play?  Ok so enough already.  It is time to actually get beyond all of those fears, beliefs and environmental things that may be holding us back and stop the self sabotage.

Ready   Set   Go

Grab those writing tools and get those words down on paper.  Keep in mind we are not going to please everyone.  But those who like our work might turn out to be very strong supporters and that is where the excitement is in sharing what we know and what we can do.

As you look around the world, there are many types of food, jobs, clothes, colors for example and we move toward those things that we like.  Well, the people who read your work are doing the same thing.  You never say to someone they are wrong when they do not like the same colors as you so why would you be upset if your type of writing was not what they liked.  It could be just as easily what they really liked.  We have to catch that self judgement and nip it in the beginning so it will not influence our decision to put our writing out into the world.

The hardest part is to start and that is a decision that starts between your ears in your own thinking.  This is a delicious and dynamic journey but you have to give yourself permission to go on the trip.  We  all have our victim story and our automatic excuses.  This is not to blame but to encourage you that you can get beyond that.

People are waiting for what you write.  So my question for you is: ” How much longer are you going to make us wait?”  We can only ask so many times before we go on to someone else who is willing to share.  Yes it really is about being willing to share with others.

You have heard it dozens of times that a journey of a thousand steps begins with taking the first step.  Surely you are not planning to die with your book still inside of you so now is the time to start.

If you need help I can give you a step by step process through my membership program where you get the steps from idea to finished book  in a simple format you can easily follow and complete.
